Making Sure Your Manners Translate

A few years ago, I traveled to Jordan. In Aqaba, I met a very nice man who offered to show me and my friend around. After a lovely day on a boat on the Red Sea he asked if we wanted to come to his house for dinner, but cautioned that it was customary for guests to eat from the head of the camel at the meal. Well, I’m slightly more adventurous today but I knew enough to decline and offer to take him OUT to dinner for his troubles instead. It would have been terrible manners to turn down the “best” part of the camel and I knew I wouldn’t be able to stomach it.

Here’s a great info-graphic on table manners around the world. This could definitely come in handy for those of us who prefer to eat with the locals.  83IZcAe
