If you’ve ever seen a Kombucha SCOBY or Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast you know what a seriously weird organism looks like. Recently, I’ve been home brewing my own Kombucha (Here’s the recipe I use: Ginger Kombucha), but it turns out that a Kombucha SCOBY can be used for something far more interesting than a fermented tea drink.
Tests on Earth have shown that these multicellular biofilms are tough and will most probably survive an unprotected trip through space. But there is only one way to tell for sure and that is why the Kombucha-making organisms and other biological specimens are now circling Earth exposed to space.
